Lagos Life Businesses and Side Gigs Explained
Unofficial guide. Last checked 2026-10-10.
Shifts pay the rent. Businesses and side gigs are what you do with the money left over. This page covers the reported costs and the maths that decides whether they are worth it.
Side gigs
Guides report short extra jobs that pay less than a full shift but take less energy. That trade is the point: a side gig is worth it when it does not stop you working your main shift. If it does, it is a loss.
Small businesses
Several guides put small business startup costs at around ₦150,000. We have not verified that figure, and it is worth checking against a job you could hold instead: at entry-level pay of about ₦6,600 a shift, ₦150,000 is roughly 23 shifts. Ask yourself how many weeks of business income it takes to beat 23 shifts before you spend it.
Land and plots
Guides put land plots at around ₦250,000 and above. Plots are reported to be a long-term hold rather than a weekly earner. If you cannot cover rent first, land is the wrong purchase. See Sea Plots and billboards for the advertising side of property.
Do you need a business at all?
No. A character with a decent job and controlled needs can cover weekly rent indefinitely. Businesses are for players who have already built a buffer and want something to spend it on. Compare the alternatives on the money guide and the jobs page.
